Questions
I'm thinking I want to get a spinning wheel. Yes, I want to come to the dark side. So leave me a comment.
What wheel do you have?
What do you love/hate about it?
Single or Double treadle?
Any suggestions for a starting wheel?
Just help me narrow it down!!

My friend Sarah recently purchased a wheel and she loves it!

If you can, try out a bunch of wheels. What works for one person doesn't always work for another. But I'll talk about my wheel anyway :)
I have a Lendrum DT, which I love. I knew I wanted a castle-style wheel that could do a varying number of ratios because I like to spin laceweight and I like to spin bulky. I had a few in mind (the lendrum, one of the louets, a kromski, the ashford traveller) and I checked them out at MDS+W in May. I found that the Lendrum spun the best for me and was within my price range (I ordered it from The Woolery, who have a great price on the wheel). I like the DT because I can choose to spin single if I want to. I like that the Lendrum is quick to set up (literally three steps), quick to swap out the flyer, and can spin bulky or superfine. It also doesn't take up a lot of space. It's not the most gorgeous wheel but that was much less important to me. If you have any specific questions, let me know. :)
I have a single-treadle Lendrum and I like it but it is the only wheel I've ever used. (I'm drooling over the Ashford Traditional or Traveller though that's purely for looks.) My wheel was the right price - secondhand. I do like its portability and the fact that it folds right down (can store it under my bed). I do sometimes wonder if I'd prefer it as a double-treadle though. I did buy the jumbo flyer for it and am happy I did.
As far as performance, I really don't have any issues. Nothing that a good greasing wouldn't cure. I think it's a great wheel and proof that you don't need to spend a ton to get one that will do the job that you need it to do.
I'd suggest using a bunch of wheels, if you can, and then seeing what you're most comfortable with. I loved mine when I got it because it's so PRETTY, then I hated it because it's so fucking QUIRKY, then through trial and a lot of error and a great deal of cussin' I liked it and now I love me some wheel, baby.
It's a single treadle castle wheel, which I like for the small amount of space it takes up. Nobody actually knows what it is, but it seems to be some sort of Wee Geordie clone. Anyhow, they don't make 'em any more.
I think I'm going to get an Ashford Traditional at some point, but I've been hearing good things about the Lendrum DT and oh god how many wheels can a girl have?
