Giving this new blogger picture thing a try

Apparently, blogger has a new way to post images. So let's have a little fun!

I made one of these dolls the other day at work. It was a fun way to waste some time and the options are endless.

The actual ones move. I don't know what I did when I saved it onto my computer.

Not quite the technology genius here.

I have been knitting, really, I swear. See, I have evidence....

A sock... with some fabulous Lana Grossa cotton sock yarn. I have to remind myself to not knit so tight.

On a side note, I've joined the six sock group. Have to add the button to my side bar. I'm not going to start with the shoots and ladders because it's a month into it already. Come August 1, I'm on it. I just hope I can keep up.

My clapotis. Still plodding along. I hope that with all of my free time this weekend that I can get a few repeats done.

I make it sound like I'm a lady of leisure don't I? Pffft. I wish. Anyone have a winning lottery ticket I can have?

I've already faxed of 4 resumes, surfed monster, hotjobs and the edd website. I've also vacuumed the living room, made breakfast, ran to the store for cat and dog food, read the paper, taken pictures, worked on a RAOK, wrapped some gifts for my SP box and surfed bloglines. I'm bored already. I'm not a sit still kind of girl.

ANYWAY.....

Here's a sneak preview of the ROAK I was working on. Yes, it's the same fabric as my monkey pants. I bought the store out of it's last 2 yards.

**** edited to add ****** Where can I get a six sock button? I checked the Yahoo group stuff and couldn't find one. Ok, so I'm being lazy and don't want to surf to find one.

Another one bites the dust!

I'd expected to have at least the rest of this week to work.

Oh well, I knew it was coming. The owner basically cleaned out the important stuff - it looks like an office, but all of the good stuff and all of his personal stuff is gone. He gave me a check (for all of my hours owed), the rest of the week off - for the holiday HA!!! - and told me to come back Tuesday. Yeah... I'm sure my behind is NOT going to be there on Tuesday.

Besides... the investigators are coming out next week. Actually, it couldn't be better timing. I have 2 interviews tomorrow and 1 on Friday. I do belive that 2 weeks is my shortest tenure at a job. At least it wasn't my fault.

I've been thinking of moving. I love California, don't get me wrong, but I just don't get the me, Me, ME attitude. (and here I am talking about me, me, me - but it's MY blog so pfft) Maybe it's just because I've had a couple of sucky job situations. I don't know, but I've been looking at St. George and Mesquite. Maybe even Las Vegas or Pueblo. I guess I'll narrow it down somehow. Anyone live in any of those towns and can offer any good/bad things about living there?

I don't have a lot of demands for a new town. Desert or desert-ish, lower cost of living, and I have to be able to find a job that pays the rent! See... easy peasy!

Just a thought I want to remember

"Kindness is the essence of greatness and the fundamental characteristic of the noblest men and women I have known. Kindness is a passport that opens doors and fashions friends. It softens hearts and molds relationships that can last lifetimes. Kind words not only lift our spirits in the moment they are given, but they can linger with us over the years."

WHOA there!

I checked out my blog from work and the nice, sweet pale yellow I had - it wasn't so nice and pale. Of course I had to play around a little and change it. Now it looks just right. Of course it will probably look like crap on my computer at home. I wish that I could do some serious changes to my blog look, but I don't have the knowledge to do so. Don't have the gumption either.

Found a sock pattern! Yeah me! I'm going to cast on today and see how it works. Yes, it's a simple pattern, but since I'm quite new at socks, I don't feel comfortable winging it. I got it from here. I'm going to save crusoe for another day. (another day being when the yarn shop by work actually has some KPPPM in)

:::::::::: sound of screeching brakes ::::::::::::::::::

Phew! close call. I was here typing along... all alone again (because the owner can't seem to get his frat boy a** out of bed and actually be here) when his dad stopped in. Luckily, there is a dead bolt on the back door and I heard it turning and had a chance to minimize.

::::::: back to our regularly scheduled post :::::::::

About the yarn shop, it's a perfectly nice shop, the ladies are very helpful...but, (you knew that was coming) I feel meh about it. They have a lot of novelty yarns and while they have a TON of different yarns by manufacturer, they don't really have much of a selection. Sure they have everything from debbie bliss to nature wool, berroco to SWTC, but where are the color choices? And forget a choice of sock yarn. I have more variety from Michaels. I know, I should just be grateful that I can go to a LYS. But I'm not impressed with this one.

Anyone want to fund a yarn shop? Anyone? Bueller?

**edited to add***
WOW! Everyone's site looks better on this monitor. Even this one! (haha j/k I love Rebecca's blog - while there, check out the masterpiece link) The ole laptop just isn't cutting it anymore. I didn't realize it was so bad.

A sweet RAOK

What does every working girl need?

A gift card from Starbucks of course! Many thanks to Jenn for the wonderful card and gift certificate! It is perfect for my early mornings. I really don't understand how I get dressed and drive before I have coffee.

Yes, I am still at the shady place of employment. I am desperately looking for a new job. However, after many, many discussions I decided to stay at this one instead of going back to 3 jobs. You may say I'm crazy, but here is my reasoning:
  • better pay which in turn means:
  • only have to work one job
  • this position looks better on my resume
  • and yes, I am helping get information
I'm doing this with my eyes wide open. I'm not going to be blindsided by anything bad. I am helping right a wrong.

Anyway... in knitting news. I haven't done squat! I started and ripped out about 5 socks. I can't find a pattern that fits my gauge/yarn. I wanted to do crusoe, but I had to go up to 3's to get gauge, which didn't work with the yarn. I need something that uses nothing larger than 2's and fits 26 stitches over 30 rows (I think that's right). If anyone has any ideas, let me know!

Plus, I found my dpns. Yeah me!

Too darn hot here... going to jump in pool.

Busy beaver weekend

an F.O. Posted by Hello

I finished the felted bag. Yipee! Thanks again Secret Pal!!!

Fiber Trends Fabulous Felt Totes
Knit Picks Wool of the Andes in Bluebonnet - 8 skeins
Started: June 3, 2005
Finished: June 12, 2005
Felted: June 13 and June 18, 2005

I also spun the two little balls of yarn and am going to knit a little cell phone cozy for my mom with the singles. I'll probably end up felting it since my yarn isn't so even.

Yes, that is another started object. The kittens have stolen the chihuahua's one bed and I had some old wool/acrylic blend I thought I'd get rid of. I'm kind of loosely basing this on the cat bed in SnB, but I want an oval and I'm going to make 2 bottoms and put some batting and catnip between the layers.

What about the sock and the clapotis you ask? Hmmmm... well, they're still on the needles. I'll get there someday.

What does one do?

spin baby, spin Posted by Hello

Tell me. What does one do when they have a craptastic week? Why, spend money of course! Indulge themselves in a little fiber goodness. Ooooooh yeah, I see a new obsession here. The big ball of white is so freakin' soft. And I got some romney that I can start from scratch with.

I spent about 2 hours at The Weaver's Cottage today (thanks to Stacey for cluing me in to this place) learning how to use a drop spindle and fondling rovings. I had just gone in for yarn and next thing you know... I'm trying something new.

I really needed a pick me up... and I got it.

On a side note tangent here.... I don't think I ever want to work for an LDS owned company again. This is the 3rd one that was all hinkey.

Groveling to get my old job(s) back

It has been quite an interesting week. Yes, I am trying to get my old job back.

A little back story... the place I went to work at is owned by two brothers. Each brother had a similar company to this one and got together and formed a new one.

I found out late yesterday that the one brother is being investigated by a overnmentgay agency for defrauding said agency for alot of moolah with old company. Had a nice chat with said agency.

yingtray otay otnay aysay ootay uchmay

Found out last person in my position didn't get fired - quit (along with 2 other employees) the day the owner was visited by agency

In knitting news, I did felt the the bag, but it isn't quite done enough. I'm going to throw it back in and do some more tomorrow.

Tuesday, June 14, 2005

and the answer is.....

"So sorry about that. I did not realize that *** was going to take the day off. I had major errands to run due to working so much. Go ahead and be at the office at 8:00 am. I will be there and we can get started. Once again sorry."

Alrighty then!

Hey, at least I have an extra hour of sleep tomorrow.

**Bonus**

I didn't have to grovel for my old jobs back.

I stopped at the knitting store down there (but was too afraid to buy anything in case I didn't have a job.)

Thanks for all of the congrats for getting the job, the wonderful shot of chocolate and the wtf's!

What?

What am I doing home at 12 p.m. on the first day of my new job?

Well let me tell you.

I left early, got there at 6:30, sat back and waited.

and waited

and waited

About 7:30 I get out of my car and went to the front and back doors to see if I missed a note or anything.

nope

Go back to my car... what do I see? A flat tire.

Figure I'll wait a little. I'm sure the guys will be there soon, I can call AAA.

waited

waited

waited some more

8:30 - went next do to a church and called home to see if they left a message

nope

Called AAA, they came and put the donut on. I left a note at both the front and back door just in case and ran to the tire shop around the corner to fix the flat.

Came back and waited.

10:30, went back to the church to use their phone... no message at home, no one answering phones at the job.

The ladies at the church are going to pray for me.

Guess it was the tears.

uh

somebody

please

RUT ROH!

So maybe getting the job has clouded reality a little.

I have to be at work at 7 a.m.

It takes an hour.. .actual drive time

I need to leave at 6 a.m.

I'll need to put an additional 15 minutes for "just in case" (this is the L.A. area)

That makes it 5:45 a.m.

Driving that early requires a stop at Starbucks

That makes it 5:30 a.m.

I HAVE TO LEAVE THE HOUSE AT 5:30 IN THE MORNING!

That means I'll have to drag my ass out of bed BEFORE the butt-crack of dawn.

That means I have to wake up at the latest 4:30 a.m.

EVERY MORNING!!

I haven't done that in almost a year.

I'm not a morning person.

I'm in trouble.

Be afraid.

What am I doing home?

bag and cats Posted by Hello

This was yesterday's progress of the felted bag my Secret Pal sent. I finished it last night and am going to felt it today. ( I wonder if it will felt in the pool)

So you want to know why the woman with 3 jobs is at home on a Monday afternoon? Well I've gotten a job... a real, pays well, actually get to work job. No more going bonkers with boredom. No more juggling bills. I did my last interview this morning and was offered the position... and they want me to start tomorrow. NO PROBLEM!!!!!!

Thank You SP!!

Fiber Trends Bag Posted by Hello

Thanks again to my secret pal for this pattern from Fiber Trends. This is what I've spent the weekend doing. I have to finish out the novelty yarn part (about 2 more rows) and then 5 rows of just wool. Of course, the handles could take forever. I may take this to work tomorrow to finish it off. I can't wait to felt it!

My Pal ROCKS!!

Secret pal package Posted by Hello

Now, I had a head's up that a package was on the way, but what an awesome suprise! Thankfully, it all made it here o.k.. I was a little worried since I have the mailman from hell. Very smart pal to wrap everything in bubble wrap. Even the chocolate made it here in one piece - although it didn't stay that way for long.

The dpns were perfect, seeing as I lost all but 2 sets of mine. I can't wait to try making socks on bamboos.

I'm going to cast on for the bag this weekend. I just love all of Fiber Trends patterns. I have some knitpicks I had gotten for something else and some On Line Beach ( I think) that I had NO idea what to do with. I'm going to match colors right now.

YEAH!!!!! What a great start to a weekend!

Thanks again Secret Pal!!
